White Friday explores the contrasting values between spiritual Fridays and the rise of consumer culture in the Gulf. Inspired by the regional adaptation of America’s Black Friday, the exhibition uses this phenomenon as a lens to question how shopping, identity, and modernity intersect in the region.
Through multidisciplinary works by artists from Qatar and beyond, the show reflects on themes like aspiration, luxury, social status, and the impact of globalisation. From the grandeur of shopping malls to acts of consumer activism, White Friday challenges us to reconsider what we buy, why we buy it, and at what cost.
